Southside

Recognized Firewise Community/USA

The community of Southside (Independence County) became a FireWise community in December of 2009. With a population of approximately 2,500 residents, Southside is served by the Southside Fire Department under Fire Chief Jeremy Loggins. This is one of six communities certified by the Southside Fire Department near Batesville, Arkansas.

Southside Fire Department hosted a booth at the elementary school festival in coordination with
parent/teach conferences as an education event in their community. Students, teachers and
parents were exposed to wildfire safety literature at this Monday, February 22nd event. Crew members also
displayed a fire truck in the parking lot - the booth was a creative way to interact with families of Southside.
