The Arkansas FireWise Team chooses a home each month that illustrates Firewise principles. The August 2006 Arkansas FireWise Home of the Month, owned by Darwin and Beth Hendrix, was chosen by David Samuel, Arkansas FireWise Coordinator, during a trip to Antoine.

"This great model home with brick siding, metal roof, excellent Firewise landscaping and defensible space is located in a heavily forested area just south of Antoine on Highway 301," Samuel said. The home is surrounded by low-growing, high-moisture content plants, and ladder fuels have been removed to prevent a grass fire from making its way into the tree canopy.

Darwin Hendrix is the son of former Arkansas Forestry Commission Commissioner and State Senator Olen Hendrix.
