The August 2007 Arkansas FireWise Home of the Month belongs to Kevin Crossno of Paragould. The home was nominated by Matt Simpson, Special Projects Forester for AFC District 3. Simpson has worked closely with Mr. Crossno to develop a Forest Stewardship plan for his property. Photos of the property were taken prior to a meeting with the Greene County Fire Chiefs Association to discuss the Firewise Communities/USA recognition process.
The home is surrounded by a lush, green lawn and the gravel driveway provides an excellent fire break. The stone siding at the base of the structure provides added protection from wind-blown embers. Also, note how the home's vents have been screened with 1/8-inch metal wire mesh.
