Devils Den State Park Arkansas FireWise State Park |
The Strickler/Devils Den Firewise board and members of the Strickler Volunteer Fire Department met Nov. 22, 2004 at the Strickler Fire Station. Original Firewise board members were Bruce Copeland, president; Isaiah Porter Jr., vice-president; Floyd Cantrell, secretary; Chris Coker, Strickler VFD Fire Chief; Randall Coker, Strickler VFD Assistant Chief; Kenny Coker, Strickler VFD; Seth Coker, Strickler VFD; Dena Lamb, Strickler VFD; Mark Carte, Strickler VFD; Jessee Cox, Devils Den State Park Superintendent; Dennis Spear, AFC Washington County Ranger, and Kevin Hickie, AFC County Forester.
The agenda included an overview of the Firewise Communities/USA program and accomplishments in Arkansas during the last two years. The group was also trained to conduct risk assessments on homes and structures (including cabins, visitor center and maintenance buildings at Devils Den State Park) that are at risk from wildland fire. David Samuel noted that at the time, there was still considerable ice storm damaged fuels from recent years that needed to be reduced near homes in the Strickler fire district and around the cabins in Devils Den State Park.
