The August 2004 FireWise Home of the Month was selected in the state of Washington while Arkansas FireWise Coordinator David Samuel was working the Western summer wildfire season as a safety officer with the Pacific Northwest Incident Management Team.

Remember homes on steep terrain require more defensible space than those on flat terrain. It's also important to provide accessibility and visibility from the main road for emergency vehicles.
