The Arkansas FireWise Team chooses a home each month that illustrates Firewise principles. The August 2006 FireWise Home of the Month, owned by Darwin and Beth Hendrix, was chosen by David Samuel, Arkansas FireWise Coordinator, during a trip to Antoine.

"This great model home with brick siding, metal roof, excellent FireWise landscaping and defensive space is located in a heavily forested area just south of Antoine on Highway 301," Samuel said. The home is surrounded by low-growing, high-moisture content plants, and ladder fuels have been removed to prevent a grass fire from making its way into the tree canopy.

Darwin Hendrix is the son of former Arkansas Forestry Commission Commissioner and State Senator Olen Hendrix.
