FireWise Boards

Nine Fire Departments in Ashley County attended a FireWise meeting at the Crossett Experiment Station on June 14, 2005.

Attending from the West Crossett VFD were Vaughn Barnes (Fire Chief), Phillip Sharp (Captain), Gary Tyler (CTO), Chris Gill (Captain), Phillip Sharp (Captain), from North Crossett FD was Jeff Tyler (Fire Chief); from Crossett FD: Donny Walker (Captain), Jim Bryan (FF), Murelie Carter (FF), Deron Boykin (Captain), Ted Frank (FF); from Hamburg FD: Steve Cypert (Fire Chief), Tom Hollis (Captain), Jerry Breedlove (Asst. Chief); from the Unity-Frost Prairie VFD was Dan Kersey (Asst. Chief); from Wilmot Fire & Rescue: Corliss McCain (Fire Chief); from Milo FD: Jerry Craig (Fire Chief); from Parkdale VFD: Tommy Green (Fire Chief) and Nadine Green; and from the Berlin FD: Bobby Linden (Fire Chief), Shawn Bates (FF), Danny Smith (FF), Robert Smith (Captain), Anthony Smith (FF), Dean Guffin (FF), Lee Holland (FF), Carl Nowate (FF).

Representing the Arkansas Forestry Commission were Joe Friend, Jody Perritt, Stephanie Price, Kevin Kilcrease, Bobby Linden, and David Samuel.

The two-hour meeting on June 14 consisted of Orientation to FireWise and the FireWise Communities/ USA Recognition Program followed by Risk Assessment Training.

After the June 2005 Ashley County FireWise meeting (above), the Unity-Frost Prairie Fire Department invited the Arkansas FireWise Team to help organize the Unity-Frost Prairie FireWise Board (right) on Sept. 26, 2005.

Attending the Unity-Frost Prairie FireWise Board meeting were: Fire Chief Fred Tutt, Captain Wade Barnett, training officer Mac New and firefighters Fred Akin, Hank Rick, Thomas Todd, Calvin Griffis, James Rhodes, Don Greene, Darrin Cooley, Alvin Cassity, Jacob Tankersley, Nathaniel Miller, Phillip Tankersley, Earl Murphy, and Dean Marcus.

Representing the Arkansas Forestry Commission's Arkansas FireWise Team were Joe Friend, Kevin Kilcrease, and David Samuel.

The first part of the September 2005 FireWise program provided information on how Unity-Frost Prairie could become a Firewise Community/USA followed by training in conducting wildfire risk assessments on homes in the wildland/urban interface.
