Carroll County

FireWise Boards

Tony Siciliano, Arkansas FireWise consultant, and David Samuel, Arkansas FireWise coordinator, made a 15 minute presentation to the Carroll County Quorum Court on April 20, 2007.

Just prior to the presentation, information packets containing a spring newsletter, a homeowner's guide, informative pamphlet, a "How to Become a Firewise Community" handout, Arkansas FireWise lapel pins, list of Firewise Communities/USA in Carroll County, and contact information were distributed to each Quorum Court member.

David Samuel began the presentation with a short introduction of what Firewise is about, and how Arkansas ranks with the rest of the country. He then introduced Tony, and shared the strides he has made in Carroll County.

Tony discussed the status of the communities in Carroll County in categories of recognized, in progress and no action at present. For his presentation, Tony created two visual aids using a map of Carroll County.

Currently there are 14 certified communities (Alpena, Beaver, Blue Eye, Coin, Denver, Eureka Springs, Grassy Knob, Green Forest, Holiday Island, Hugh, Inspiration Point, Maple, Oak Grove and Yocum) in Carroll County and three (Rule, Farewell and Carrollton) in progress. David Samuel asked the Quorum Court to encourage the Berryville and South Carroll County Volunteer Fire Departments to join in the effort, making Carroll County the first county in Arkansas to have 100 percent participation.

Tony informed the Court that Boone County (an adjacent county) has discussed reaching the milestone as first "Firewise County in Arkansas."

Following the meeting in Berryville, David and Tony traveled to Beaver to meet with Billie Padgett, chair of the Beaver FireWise Board and owner of the March 2007 FireWise Home of the Month.
