Recognized Firewise Community/USA

The community of Higginson became a Recognized Firewise Community/USA on Oct. 1, 2007. A luncheon and recognition ceremony was held Oct. 23, 2007 in the banquet hall of Mount Magazine State Park Lodge. Accepting a plaque presented by Governor Mike Beebe was Marvin Mathis, Higginson VFD Fire Chief. Also pictured is Lowell Altom, Arkansas Forestry Commission White County Ranger II, and White County Judge Michael Lincoln.

Representatives of the Higginson Volunteer Fire Department learned about the Firewise Communities/USA recognition process during a meeting May 17, 2007, at Arkansas State University (photo at left ). Attending the meeting were Marvin Mathis, fire chief; Louis Love, chief advisor; Earl Bogan, fire investigator; Dennis Usery, officer; Darol Graham, captain, Tina Dabbs, firefighter; Nathan Dabbs, firefighter; Cathy Bogan, firefighter, Craig Spencer, firefighter; Lowell Altom, White County Ranger II, and David Samuel, Arkansas FireWise Coordinator.
