Certified Firewise Community/USA

The Point Cedar FireWise Board was formed Sept. 16, 2004. The community was officially certified as a Firewise Community/USA in October 2006. A luncheon and recognition ceremony was held Dec. 14 in the Garden View Room of the Clinton Presidential Library. Accepting the plaque and highway signs on behalf of the community of Point Cedar is Robert Scott, Point Cedar FireWise board member. Also pictured are John Shannon, State Forester; Dennis Sharp, Garland County Forester; Glen Fortenberry, Fire Team Leader, Ouachita & Ozark-St. Francis National Forests; Michele Steinberg, Firewise Communities Support Manager; and Don McBride, Assistant State Forester-Protection.

Point Cedar FireWise Board members are Robert Scott, board president; Tyler Thornton, Mark Scott, Mike Scott and Roger Jones, AFC County Ranger.

For their first Firewise project, the Point Cedar Volunteer Fire Department hosted an open house in conjunction with their annual yard sale. The board made available the completed wildfire risk assessments and provided tips to homeowners on how to reduce their home's risk rating.
