Certified Firewise Community/USA

The Johnson County FireWise Board was organized in June 2003 and received Arkansas Woodland Home Forest Fire Hazard training.

Nine of 11 fire departments were represented, along with the Arkansas Forestry Commission District Ranger and the Fire Management Officer from the U.S. Forest Service. Johnson County FireWise board members in 2003 were Fred Taylor, Johnson County OES Coordinator; Pat Kowalewyez, U.S. Forest Service District Ranger; Dayna Hilton, Johnson County Rural Fire Department #1; Chris Chappell, Johnson County Rural Fire Department #2; Albert Fassler, Johnson County Rural Fire Department #3; Rick Elms, Johnson County Rural Fire Department #4; Evert Breeden, Johnson County Rural Fire Department #5; Doug Carey, Johnson County Rural Fire Department #6; Gary Crotts, Johnson County Rural Fire Department #7; Larry Huff, Johnson County Rural Fire Department #8; Dale Pitts, Johnson County Rural Fire Department #9; Randy Warren, Johnson County Rural Fire Department #10; Craig Harderson, Johnson County Rural Fire Department #11; Larry White, Lamar Fire Department; Allen Brown, Knoxville Fire Department; Bryan McCain, Coal Hill Fire Department; Ron Wylie, Clarksville Fire Department; George Overby, Lamar Mayor; James Hester, Knoxville Mayor; Deborah Marvel, Coal Hill Mayor; Billie Helms, Clarksville Mayor; Wes Kendrick, Johnson County Sheriff; Mike Jacobs, Johnson County Judge; Hank Sparks, Johnson County 911 Coordinator; Jack Edwards, U.S. Forest Service Fire Management Officer; Jack Cline Jr., Arkansas Forestry Commission County Ranger.

Later that year, the county board reorganized into four separate boards representing the communities of Hunt, Hartman, Ludwig-Lakewood, and Lutherville-Holman.

Hunt was recognized as certified Firewise Community/USA on Dec. 21, 2004.
