Recognized Firewise Community/USA

Newhope earned Firewise Communities/USA Recognition in October 2007. A luncheon and recognition ceremony was held Oct. 23, 2007 in the banquet hall of Mount Magazine State Park Lodge. Accepting a plaque presented by Governor Mike Beebe were Robert Jordan, Shona Jordan, Kenneth Fant, Arkansas Forestry Commission Ranger II, and Sandra Hunt. Also pictured is Billy Williams, Arkansas Forestry Commission, Pike County Ranger III, who assisted the community through the Firewise Communities/USA recognition process.

The community of Newhope in Pike County joined the Arkansas FireWise team on Feb. 26, 2007. A meeting with the fire department was set up by Billy Williams, Pike County Ranger, at the fire station. The Firewise Communities/USA recognition process was discussed and risk assessment training was conducted. Attending the meeting were Shona Jordan, Brandy Smith, Charles Whisenhunt, Brady Whisenhunt, Tina Launius, Billy Williams, Kenny Fant, AFC Howard County Ranger, and David Samuel, Arkansas FireWise Coordinator.

A Firewise board was organized with the following officers elected: Robert Jordan, chair; Shona Jordan, vice-chair; Brandy Smith, secretary; Billy Williams, member, and Kenny Fant, member.
