Certified Firewise Community/USA

The community of Appleton, located along Highway 124, became a Certified Firewise Community/USA on Oct. 17, 2006. A luncheon and recognition ceremony was held Dec. 14, 2006, in the Garden View Room of the Clinton Presidential Library. Appleton was presented a plaque and highway signs during a luncheon and recognition ceremony Dec. 14 in the Garden View Room of the Clinton Presidential Library. Accepting a plaque and highway signs on behalf of the community are James Housley, Appleton FireWise Board member; Ola Faie Condley, Appleton FireWise Board member, and Veo Condley, Appleton FireWise Board member. Firefighters completed wildfire risk assessments for more than 400 homes in their district, and hosted an open house October 10 to educate homeowners about the importance of creating a defensible space.
