Living on the Edge Training: Ozark

Feb. 17, 2004

The Arkansas Forestry Commission sponsored this Living on the Edge training in cooperation with Interactive Training Media, which has created interactive CDs for FireWise training in Arkansas. The sessions were held at the local college.

This was the second of four Living on the Edge training sessions. The first was in Little Rock on Jan. 15, 2004; the third was held in Forrest City on April 8, 2004; and the fourth and final session was held in Fayetteville on May 20, 2004. These sessions train the trainers, who then go out and train "civilians."

Eighty-one participants from various federal, state and local agencies signed up for the training. A few didn't come, but some walk-in participants took their place.

The problems presented during the breakout sessions were real-world type problems with no one solution. As in the real world, all solutions call for compromises and judgement calls. The "Living on the Edge" interactive CD helped these leaders prepare to teach other citizens how to be Firewise.
