Jacksonport State Park |

Steamboats made Jacksonport a thriving port in the early 1800s, and the state park has a rich history, having been a crucial locale during the Civil War. When bypassed by the railroad, Jacksonport saw a decline in the 1880s. The booming port, named the county seat in 1854, lost it's hold to Newport in 1891, and soon stores, saloons and wharves began to disappear. Located three miles north of Newport on Arkansas Highway 69, visitors can still enjoy the beauty and history of Jacksonport. Along with the 1872 Courthouse and Mary Woods No. 2 sternwheel paddleboat, interpretive programs, camping, hiking, picnic areas, and swimming are available to the public.
