The Arkansas FireWise Team chooses a home each month that illustrates Firewise principles. David Samuel, Arkansas FireWise Coordinator, discovered the home of Carolyn Milner during a trip to the Ouachita County community Frenchport.

This home, located at 1722 Ouachita County Road 67, is constructed of brick and composition shingles. Milner has increased her home's survivability by creating an excellent defensible space through landscaping and a recently thinned pine stand. The home's risk from wildfire is also greatly reduced because of its accessibility and nearby water source (city fire hydrant).

Here is an idea for a Firewise plan next to a home — tomatoes (photo at right).
