Chuck and Anita Bradford have been awarded The Arkansas FireWise Home of the Month for July. Located at 911 Hwy. 64 E. in Bald Knob, the Bradfords have been hard at working to Firewise their home, with mitigation being an ongoing process for the couple, both taking pride in their home and surroundings.
The Bradfords have done all the work themselves and are a perfect example that Firewise mitigation can be done in a short time and make a complete difference in wildfire hazard. Chuck and Anita have lived at the residence since 1999. The property is Anita’s homestead where she grew up as a little girl.
Chuck is chairman of the Firewise Board of Bald Knob and serves on the city council.
When building their home, the Bradfords knew nothing about wildfire danger and fire potential around rural areas, unaware that a program like Firewise existed. According to Chuck, after having been introduced to firefighting and the Firewise program, he looked at his own home and wanted to make it more compliable to the ideas of Firewise construction, landscaping and mitigation. Chuck and Anita Bradford are wonderful examples to neighbors and the community with their Firewise efforts.
