Lake Poinsett State Park |
On Jan. 16, 2008, Arkansas FireWise Coordinator David Samuel met with Alan Rudd, Park Tech II, Chase Henderson, Park Tech I, Ome Coleman, PASC, and Chris Greer and Terry Moon, Extended Harrisburg Vo-Tech Class, to discuss the steps necessary for Lake Poinsett State Park to receive Arkansas FireWise Honor Roll recognition. Following the meeting Alan Rudd and David Samuel conducted a park assessment. "Overall, the park is very Firewise with the maintenance crew doing a great job in cleaning up most of the leaves and pine needles, and establishing an adequate defensible space around the two residences, maintenance area, pavilion and visitor center," said David Samuel. The visitor center was the only structure at moderate risk due to the wood siding and the forested area behind to the west and south. Samuel shared the importance of keeping at least 30 feet cleaned on the west and south side of the building. Additional information about Lake Poinsett State ParkSituated among the scenic rolling hills atop Crowley's Ridge in Northeastern Arkansas is Lake Poinsett. This 640-acre impoundment was constructed in 1960 by the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission to provide fishing recreation. Lake Poinsett State Park was established on the northern end of the lake in 1963, and today offers park visitors camping and picnic facilities. Fishing enthusiasts find the relatively shallow waters of Lake Poinsett excellent for catching large stringers of bass, crappie, bream and catfish. "Good job Lake Poinsett State Park ," said David Samuel. |
