Recognized Firewise Community/USA

The Maple Firewise board was formed Jan. 24, 2006, and the community became a recognized Firewise Community/USA on Nov. 20, 2006. A luncheon and recognition ceremony was held Dec. 14, 2006, in the Garden View Room of the Clinton Presidential Library. Accepting the plaque on behalf of the community are Josh Arnold, Oak Grove FD, and Steve Allen, Oak Grove Fire Chief. Also pictured are John Shannon, State Forester; Tony Siciliano, Arkansas FireWise consultant; Patricia Siciliano, Arkansas FireWise consultant; Michele Steinberg, Firewise Communities Support Manager, and Don McBride, Assistant State Forester-Protection.

Maple Firewise board members are Jean Morgan, president; Steve Allen, vice president; Kenneth High, Pat Carlton, Adam Arnold, Doug Youngblood and Terry Hutchison.

For their first Firewise project, volunteers cleaned up around highway signs, to ensure they were visible to emergency personnel. Brush was also removed and trees trimmed around the Oak Grove VFD.
