The March 2007 Arkansas FireWise Home of the Month belongs to Bill and LaDonna Padgett, and is located on Feather Creek Road in Beaver.
The Padgetts purchased the property — heavily overgrown with weeds and brush — approximately two years ago. They have worked hard in creating a defensible space through the removal of ladder fuels underneath the well-spaced trees.
Mr. Padgett is retired and works on many community projects, including volunteering as a firefighter for the Holiday Island Fire Department. He also recently accepted the position of Firewise board chairman for the community of Beaver. Mrs. Padgett works with children at a local daycare.
The Arkansas FireWise Home of the Month certificate was presented to Mr. and Mrs. Padgett by Tony Siciliano, Arkansas FireWise consultant, and Jack Deaton, Holiday Island Fire Chief, during a meeting of the Beaver Firewise board (photo at left).
