The home of Scott and Cindy Sorrells was selected the May 2007 Arkansas FireWise Home of the Month. The Sorrells own more than 500 acres in Saline County just off of Highway 35, south of the Benton city limits. Approximately 40 acres of the land was thinned and modified during the home's construction.
The red brick home with asphalt shingles is surrounded with an immense defensible space. The trees have been thinned, and the lawn is kept short and well-watered. Vegetation has even been cleared away around the shop.
Instead of a wooden fence, the Sorrells chose to surround their swimming pool and patio with a brick wall. The back porch overlooks a large pond, that can also be used as an emergency water supply.
Scott Sorrels has owned and operated a sawmill for the past 30 years. The mill produces pallets, ties and a variety of lumber for general use.
