A meeting was held at the Mount Holly Volunteer Fire Department on July 11, 2007, during which the Firewise Communities/USA process was explained and risk assessment training was provided by David Samuel, Arkansas FireWise Coordinator. Attending the meeting were Joe Bates, fire chief; Steve Rose, assistant fire chief; Brian Ainsworth, treasurer; and firefighters David Hale, Joe Nash, Donald Howell and Ronnie Sturdevant, and Chris Ludwig, Union County Ranger.

Prior to the meeting, a community assessment was conducted. The community is considered at moderate risk with forested areas around the entire community, and several forested areas within the city.

Mount Holly used grant money to purchase new equipment for the department.
