Norphlet

Recognized Firewise Community/USA

The Norphlet Firewise board was organized on Jan. 12, 2004, and the Union County town was recognized as a Firewise Community/USA on Dec. 21, 2004.

A 2004 mitigation grant from the Arkansas Forestry Commission through the Arkansas FireWise program allowed the Norphlet Fire Department to purchase equipment to complete mitigation projects, such as a wood chipper, leaf blower, chain saws and personal protective gear (photo at left).

Right: The following year, the fire department had a FireWise Emergency Response trailer built to haul equipment to mitigation projects.
