Ken and Kathy Roberts of the Ashley County community of Unity are the owners of the October 2005 Arkansas FireWise Home of the Month. The Roberts recently moved from California and understand the risk from wildland fires. Ken Roberts maintains a firebreak along the north side of the property line with Plum Creek Timber Company. During dry periods, he blows the pine straw off the road with his leaf blower to maintain the integrity of the firebreak.

The healthy, neatly-trimmed lawn keeps the landscape Firewise, and reflective street address signs identify the property for emergency vehicles.
