October 2007

The home of Ralph and Violet Adams, at 550 West Elm Street in Ratcliff, has been selected the October 2007 Arkansas FireWise Home of the Month.

David Samuel, Arkansas FireWise Coordinator, discovered the home prior to a meeting with the Ratcliff Rural Fire Department on Oct. 25. The home has an excellent defensible space, non-wood roof and asbestos siding. While visiting with the Adams, they shared some of the family history behind the home.

Violet Bell Adams, 80, grew up in the home and is the youngest of 11 children. Ralph Adams grew up in Altus and met Violet in California, while they were stationed there during World War II. Although they now live in Oklahoma City, they continue to return periodically to maintain the Bell family home. The couple plans to pass it along to their children and grandchildren, thus keeping it in the family.
