The first nine Firewise Communities/USA in Arkansas were honored during a recognition ceremony at the State Capitol with Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee presenting the plaques.

Prior to the trip to the State Capitol, everyone gathered in the Arkansas Forestry Commission's Bibler Conference Room. Amy Schneider, media relations for Firewise Communities/USA, presented each board member with a Firewise kit that included highway signs, lapel pins, a media relations packet and more.

The first Firewise Communities/USA in Arkansas were Holiday Island, Joplin, Norman, Oden, Ozark Country Estates, Pencil Bluff, Pine Ridge, Sims and Story.
