Recognized Firewise Community/USA

The Wedington Firewise board was established in January 2004, and the community was recognized for earning Firewise Communities/USA status on Dec. 21, 2004.

Original Firewise board members were Jerry Peters, chair; Chris Vaught, vice-chair; Leslie Parkes, secretary/treasurer, Arkansas Forestry Commission; Gary Morgan, Wedington FD Fire Chief; Verna Whittington, Washington County Sheriff's Office; Harold Burch, U.S. Forest Service; Randy Chick, Dwight Williams, Eric Henderson, Jeremy Ashley, John Luther, Washington County DEM; Linda Morgan, Glenn Morgan, Alford Main and Jason Morgan.

For their first Firewise outreach project, the community hosted a Firewise educational day in conjunction with their annual spaghetti dinner.
