Woolly Hollow State Park Arkansas FireWise State Park |
In January, the Arkansas FireWise Team visited with Steven Wilson, Assistant Park Superintendent of Woolly Hollow State Park, to discuss Arkansas FireWise Community recognition process, and assess the risk to structures within the park's boundaries. The 440-acre park is located on Lake Bennett in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains in north central Arkansas, just north of Greenbrier.
Overall, the park was in excellent shape. All of the structures within the park were surrounded with a minimum 30-foot defensible space. Park staff were encouraged to maintain the integrity of these spaces by raking up fallen leaves, removing twigs and small limbs, etc. Once the park submits a completed Community Wildfire Protection Plan, it will be eligible for Arkansas FireWise Community recognition.
