Recognized Firewise Community/USA

The Yocum Firewise board was formed Jan. 24, 2006, and the community became a recognized Firewise Community/USA on Nov. 20, 2006. A luncheon and recognition ceremony was held Dec. 14, 2006, in the Garden View Room of the Clinton Presidential Library. Accepting a plaque on behalf of the community were Josh Arnold, Oak Grove FD, and Steve Allen, Oak Grove FD Fire Chief. Also pictured are John Shannon, State Forester; Tony Siciliano, Arkansas FireWise consultant; Patricia Siciliano, Arkansas FireWise consultant; Michele Steinberg, Firewise Communities Support Manager, and Don McBride, Assistant State Forester-Protection.

Yocum Firewise board members are Jean Morgan, chairman; Steve Allen, assistant chairman; Donald Blach, Pat Carlton, Adam Arnold, Doug Youngblood and Terry Hutchison.

For their first Firewise project, volunteers removed brush, trimmed trees and weeds by Highway 103 and County Road 625. All debris was hauled away and burned.
