The Meadowood Fuel Treatment Demonstration Area Project in Jefferson County has been completed under the supervision of FireWise Coordinator David Samuel and Arkansas Forestry Commission County Forester Jerry Lynn.
In this project, hazard fuels (brush, dead trees, and dead branches) were cut down and hauled away, reducing the fire hazard for about 40 homes and lots in the area. In all, 48 truckloads of dry debris were hauled to the dump.
This is a pilot project, aimed at helping homeowners reduce the fire danger to their homes by helping enlarge the defensible space around their homes. Following FireWise landscaping practices, homes can be made more attractive as well as a lot safer, and itâs simple and easy to accomplish.
As you can see from the enclosed sample photographs, the Meadowood Subdivision is much more attractive and much safer. Farmers Tree Service, the contractor, has certainly contributed to this project.
Other similar projects are in the planning stage.
